THE Block Sky High is officially open for inspection.

Thousands of 'Blockheads' have travelled to South Melbourne for the chance to wander through the luxury five-story apartment block, or to just grab some face time with the five couples who transformed it over the last 10 weeks.

Queues tracked back all the way to King's Way from as early as 9am ahead of the 10am open time.

Self-proclaimed Block fanatic Rachael Delahunty, 43, and her son Jamie, 16, had the honour of being first in line, arriving at the Park St property at 3pm yesterday after travelling four hours from Yarram, Gippsland.

"We've watched every season," Ms Delahunty said.

"It's everyday people taking on something that's unbelievable, so it was worth the wait."

Fellow fan Peter Barden, 44, trekked from Echuca to see the finished product, camping out at the front of the apartment block from 2am.

"We've been to Richmond, South Melbourne, Sydney - all of them," he said.

The Block co-creator Julian Cress said it was a bigger turnout than last year's open for inspection, also in South Melbourne.

The show’s contestants were overwhelmed by the outpouring of love from their fans.

“I’m not surprised (at the number of people), no,” one half of the Victorian team, Bec said. “I’ve watched the show previously and they’ve all pulled in big crowds.

“But it just looks like an endless amount of people.”

The 26-year-old beauty therapist said she had mixed emotions about the show drawing to a close, but admitted she and partner George had a tougher time than any other the contestants with her mother dying from breast cancer during production.

“Our journey was a little bit different to everybody else’s, but getting through it was a good feeling,” she said.

“I guess I’m just nervous about the auctions now and trying to focus on that. But I’m quietly confident.”

WA’s Matt said it was hard to pick who would take out the show’s $100,000 prize.

But he didn’t think he and partner Kim would be disadvantaged by the development of three three-story town houses on the vacant land behind the apartment block, revealed by the Herald Sun this week, expected to obscure the view from their second story apartment.

“This is a five-storey building. If you want a view in Melbourne, there are plenty of 60-storey buildings,” the 32-year-old said.

South Australian twins Alisa and Lysandra, 28, whose apartment is on the first floor, were similarly unfazed by the development.

“Do you know what? We don’t have great city views anyway. We got the park view so we’re not too concerned about it,” Alisa said.

“Plenty of light still comes into the building, and we’re confident that will be reflected on the reserve price.”

The open for inspection will continue tomorrow from 10am to 2pm at 142 Park St, South Melbourne.
