Police raid an illegal casino operating in Melbourne's inner east - Herald Sun

AN ILLEGAL casino operating in Melbourne’s inner-eastern suburbs has been raided by police.

Officers last night seized gaming tables, chips and other gambling paraphernalia and business records after executing a warrant at an Abbotsford warehouse around 9.50pm.

A small amount of cocaine and large amounts of cash, alcohol and cannabis were also found at the Duke Street property.

A 36-year-old Abbotsford man was arrested and is assisting detectives with their enquiries.

Twenty-six people located in a common gaming house at the illegal casino are expected to be charged on summons.

Another man was also interviewed at the scene but released pending further enquiries.

The raid was part of a month-long investigation by the Melbourne Divisional Licensing Unit and Yarra Crime Investigation Unit detectives into suspected illegal gambling and trade of alcohol, drugs and sexual entertainment.

Police will investigate any links to organized crime.
