Heavy rain to end autumn in Melbourne - BigPond News

Melbourne is making up for a dry autumn with rain bucketing down in the last few hours of the season.

Severe weather warnings were issued for much of the state as a result of the heavy rain last night.

The city's northern suburbs received the biggest drenching with the Airport recording 45 millimetres of rain between nine and eleven o'clock last night.

Melbourne city, Viewbank and Scoresby had all recorded 22 millimetres by eleven o'clock.

Rail operator Metro says pedestrian subway tunnels have been flooded.

The rainfall comes below average rains in Melbourne in autumn.
