WITH countless acting roles in television shows and movies, it's clear that Adam Baldwin's resume is as formidable as his towering frame.
His height and physique - he's 193cm and 108kg - have seen him cast as a tough guy in everything from the X-Files through to Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket.
Speaking to the Leader ahead of a visit to the Supanova pop culture expo at Ascot Vale's Melbourne Showgrounds this weekend, Baldwin said he had been acting since 1979 and was still enjoying it.
"Hopefully you can be granted some milestone roles along the way and I've been fortunate enough to be granted those," he said of his career.
Perhaps one of his best known roles is that of space-faring mercenary Jayne Cobb in Avengers director and Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon's short-lived television series Firefly.
"You had Joss Whedon in control and he was delivering us beautiful scripts with great words to say and situations to play," Baldwin said.
"And then (you had) the actors with Nathan Fillion at the head of the cast as the captain.
"It couldn't have been any better. We just needed three or four million more viewers."
And while he said he would "jump at the chance" to reprise the role - "it was one of my favourite characters of all time" - Baldwin said he didn't see Firefly returning any time soon.
"Joss is busy with Avengers and Nathan is busy with Castle, his television show, so if it happens in the next three or four or five years, sure, but beyond that, I don't want to be 'old-guy Jayne'," he laughed.
Another director Baldwin said he had great memories of working for was Stanley Kubrick, who he said taught him "two of the most profound things" in his life.
"One was to be patient," he said.
"The other thing was to appreciate what you were doing while you were doing it.
"So that's the one thing I try to tell the younger actors I work with, especially on Firefly and Chuck, is to really appreciate this now, for what it is and do the best you can because eventually all shows close, all shows wrap up and disperse."
Supanova is on at Ascot Vale's Melbourne Showgrounds on April 13-14.
