In a brief court appearance today, Adrian Ernest Bayley (41) has pleaded guilty to having raped and murdered Irish woman Jill Meagher in Melbourne, Australia last September.
When asked how he would plead, Bayley replied "guilty" to both counts.
Justice Geoffrey Nettle then told him he accepted his pleas and remanded him in custody to return to court on June 11th for a plea and sentence hearing.
For legal reasons the details of the case cannot be reported.
Bayley previously pleaded not guilty to murder and not guilty to two charges of raping the Drogheda woman.
Bayley was last month committed to stand trial on the charges. He was due to return to court on April 29th for pre-trial discussions, followed by the trial in September.
