Clashes ahead of Wilders' Melbourne speech - Yahoo!7 News

Protesters have tried to stop people entering the Melbourne venue where controversial Dutch MP Geert Wilders is set to speak.

There were scuffles and verbal exchanges between the large group of protesters and the paying guests on Monday evening.

The protesters wrestled with those trying to access the venue, taking their tickets and pushing them to the ground.

Police formed a line to try to stop the scuffles.

Many of the protesters chanted "racism, no way, we're going to fight it all the way".

Earlier today, Mr Wilders held his first Australian media conference.

The far-right politician said he is here to warn Australians about what he described as the dangers of Islamic immigration.

His Australian speaking tour has been sponsored by a group called the Q Society, which is against multiculturalism
