Melbourne Heart are preparing to make a big play for David Beckham should he signal his intention to play in Australia.
Heart coach John Aloisi confirmed his interest in Beckham on Sunday night after the off-contract superstar finished his US career on a high with a second successive MLS premiership with LA Galaxy.
"Hopefully we'll find out in a couple of weeks whether he wants to come to Australia, and if he does come to Australia hopefully it's us," said Aloisi.
"Well, a 10-week guest stint in the last 10 weeks of the season will be good.
"A player like Beckham, I have to look at it from a football side of things. I can't worry about how big it will be for the league and whatever else, and as a footballer he is still great.
"As a professional he has always been brilliant, a good example for everyone.
"How can you not do with a player like that. So for me he would fit in very easy."
Beckham said after Galaxy's 3-1 win over Houston Dynamo yesterday that he still had no idea where his next destination would be.
But clubs from around the world are lining up to sign the former England captain.
Apart from the Heart, Central Coast Mariners, Perth Glory and Western Sydney Wanderers are also trying to lure Beckham to Australia.
They face stiff opposition from Europe because Barclays Premier League strugglers QPR and French giants Paris St Germain and Monaco are also believed to be interested in the 37-year-old.
There is also reported to be interest from China, Korea and Brazil for Beckham, who has helped raise the profile of the MLS in the US and has expressed a desire for one last footballing adventure.
