VIDEO footage at the time a Metro train smashed into a truck, killing one passenger, has been released in a bid to piece the incident together.
Victoria Police has released CCTV footage of two trucks - including one involved in the smash - and cars approaching the level crossing where the accident happened on Saturday in a bid to encourage witnesses to come forward.
In a statement just released, the police media unit says investigators have now pieced together movements of the prime mover travelling west on Abbotts Rd when the outbound commuter train smashed into it shortly after 11.40am.
The train driver injured in the rail crash is due to be brought out of an induced coma this afternoon, the Dandenong Leader reports.
Gisborne's Trevor King, 30, was severely injured after being trapped in the wreckage of the train.
The crash claimed the life of David Cron, 43. Today his family spoke of their sorrow.
Detectives released CCTV footage this afternoon of the moments leading up to the crash.
The footage will soon be available for viewing at heraldsun.com.au
Investigators are seeking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, including the driver of a white Kenworth cabover prime mover, towing a semi trailer with white curtains, seen driving ahead of the truck through the crossing moments before the crash.
Detective Inspector Bernie Ramkin said it was too early to say whether the driver of the truck involved in the accident was distracted.

"Look, as part of any investigation we do look at things such as driver distraction and fatigue," he said.
The truck's movements have been tracked leading up to the incident, police say.
"Police believe the white-coloured Western Star prime mover with a semi trailer, six axles and burgundy coloured curtains, left the Footscray Market on Footscray Road around 10.30am and travelled south on the Bolte Bridge to the Monash Freeway," a spokesperson said in the statement.
"The truck then headed south on the South Gippsland Freeway, before exiting the freeway and travelling west on Abbotts Road towards the collision site.
"Investigators are urging anyone who saw the prime mover or the crash, to come forward and assist them in their investigation.

"Police believe there may be more passengers who left the crash scene prior to police arrival and are appealing for those people to make contact."
