FLEMINGTON is revelling in racing fashion today with flamboyancy and exuberant colour dominating the Melbourne Cup style stakes.

Like a public catwalk, racegoers showcased the colours of the season.

Sherbet tones including powdered orange, pastel pink and soft aqua along with acid brights such as neon yellow, lime green and hot pink were standouts.

Women accented their outfits with artistic millinery, and bold hats favoured over smaller fascinators. Flowers and gravity defying feathers were both popular.

While the majority of racegoers remained stubborn with their style choices, refusing to re-evaluate their wardrobe despite warnings of scattered showers, a few had reassessed their footwear and chose flat shoes to better negotiate their way across the soggy lawn.

Myer Fashions on the Field, was awash with clashing colours in one of the brightest displays of racing fashion in decades.

The women’s race wear winner was Lauren Andrews 23, from Frankston South who wore a navy and chartreuse Erdem dress and Kim Fletcher headpiece.

In a thrifty move, Ms Andrews chose to recycle her outfit from Caulfield Cup for the day. Despite not even making it to the final at Caulfield, Ms Andrews will now compete in the National Fashions on the Field on Crown Oaks Day.

“I figured it was too nice not to wear again, I liked it too much to not give it another go,” she said.
