MARK his words, Australia's Formula One ace Mark Webber has baffled his Grand Prix colleagues by raving on about Australia's gambling culture and obsession with the Melbourne Cup.
CUP DRIVES WEBBER AROUND THE BEND
Formula One: The Melbourne Cup might be the race that stops Australia but it doesn't impress the country's fastest man.
Formula One driver and sports lover Mark Webber will be among the few who won't be tuning into Tuesday's Cup at Flemington because he simply hates Australia's gambling culture.
"I love sport but horse racing is not far off the bottom of my list," he said afterqualifying second fastest for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
"Gambling, in my house, my father didn't tolerate it.
"Actually, I'm not a big fan of how much it's rammed down your throat in Australia, in terms of how you can bet on who farts at what stage in a football match.
"It's incredible how obsessed we've become with gambling and betting, but each to their own."
Fellow drivers Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel looked slightly bemused by Webber's outburst at the media confernce following qualifying for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The Aussie also said he would be driving to win and was prepared to ignore team orders if he is told to support teammate Vettel's bid for the drivers' world title.

UNITED BEATS ARSENAL TO GO TOP OF EPL
Football: Robin van Persie struck against his former club as Manchester United beat Arsenal 2-1 to go top of the Premier League as Chelsea drew 1-1 at Swansea City.
Van Persie, who spent eight years at Arsenal before his summer move, put United ahead after three minutes and Wayne Rooney missed a penalty before a Patrice Evra header midway through the second half doubled their advantage.
Jack Wilshere was then sent off for a second yellow card as United squandered a number of opportunities to increase their advantage.
This is Arsenal's worst ever start to a Premier League season. "I am disappointed because we had a lot of the ball but we were not very efficient in their final third and it was a bit an illusionary domination," said Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

The International Ski Federation council decided no exception would be made to rules that prevent one gender from participating in races of the other.
