POLICE have shot a man after a confrontation at one of the entrances to Melbourne's Etihad Stadium.
The man, aged in his 30s, has been taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition.
It's understood the man produced a firearm when challenged by police and was shot several times by officers.
The shooting is believed to have taken place at the Bourke Street service entry to the AFL venue, in an underground car park.
Police blocked off many of the roads surrounding the stadium to cars, particularly along Bourke St and Batmans Hill Drive.
Police are still on the scene and a spokesman said there was no continuing threat to public safety.
