ENTHUSIASTIC racegoers have greeted the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall at Flemington ahead of the Melbourne Cup.
Prince Charles and his wife Camilla greeted racegoers after entering Flemington by driving down the famous straight.
"Hello Charlie, how are you going?" one woman called out to the prince.
Another racegoer said: "Charles, welcome to Australia. Enjoy the Cup."
Charles told one woman: "You look very fetching."
The duchess was wearing a white dress with a matching cream detailed jacket and a Philip Treacy hat which took about a week to make.
Camilla, who was wearing a red poppy, accepted a yellow rose from one man.
The royal couple met some of the jockeys who will ride in the Melbourne Cup.
About 100,000 people are expected at Flemington to watch the Melbourne Cup at 3pm (AEDT).
The Duchess of Cornwall will present the $175,000 trophy to the winning owners.
