The woman who has gained infamy around the world for allegedly throwing punches at the Melbourne Cup says she was drugged.
The woman came to public prominence as British media poked fun at drunken Aussies enjoying the Spring Racing Carnival in Melbourne.
But someone who claimed to be the woman, on YouTube (catherinejyoung78), said: "I was drugged. End of story. You people need lives" and "Give me a break. Totally unfair!"
"I'm ashamed. And was drugged!! This is out of character and at this point, it's a police matter. Thank you for all the comments. Articulate people when your sober abusing someone you have no clue what happened to. Nothing is ever as it seems," she also posted.
She also told people commenting on the video to "get over it" and called some "a bunch of trolls".
But she wasn't alone as British tabloid ' the Daily Mail' ran a featured more than a dozen images of booze-soaked punters.
The paper said British racing events had a reputation for "getting a bit messy", but the Melbourne crowds showed the UK up.
"They can party just as hard as both winners and losers sank gallons of booze and caused havoc around the racecourse."
The paper gave the Melbourne Cup, billed as the event that stops a nation, "extra kudos" as the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall made an appearance.
"But the Royals would have been shocked if they could see the behaviour of some of the 105,000-strong crowd through their binoculars from the stands.
"Down by the course, men and women were flaked out on the grass after a boozy day, girls drank straight from champagne bottles - one even staged an impromptu pole dance - while the detritus from the day built up shamefully around them."
However, Camilla said the event was "a treat" for her and Prince Charles.
Hundreds of people have commented on the article, saying they were shocked by the behaviour.
"Culture and manners are something unknown to the Aussies," one person commented.
Another person posted: "So these people think it's acceptable to act like vulgar animals in front of the royals! and I thought England was bad!"
But a person from Melbourne hit back saying: "The trashiest drunks that I have ever seen were in the UK so DM lay off Aussies."
A police spokeswoman told Australia's The Age that the crowd of 106,000 was generally well-behaved.
The behaviour of cup-goers was not the only shock at the Melbourne Cup.
Punters looked elsewhere after his failure as favourite in the Cox Plate last month, but Green Moon, ridden by Hong Kong-based Brett Prebble, stormed home to beat Fiorente and Jakkalberry.
