BRAZILIAN midfielder Guilherme Finkler has been ruled out of Melbourne Victory's trip to Newcastle Jets tomorrow night with a groin strain.

Fellow international Jonathan Bru will return to the side with Billy Celeski likely to be pushed forward into a more attacking role.

Finkler had his best game in the 2-1 win over Adelaide United last week after struggling in the opening two rounds.

Coach Ange Postecoglou said he wanted to minimise the number of changes after his team was savaged during the FIFA internationals window a fortnight ago.

"We've had a fair few disruptions in the first few rounds due to international commitments and we want to settle the team down a little," Postecoglou said.

"Gui pulled up sore after last week's game, we probably could've taken him to Newcastle but we don't want to take risks this early.

"Jonny Bru will come in for Gui, but the actual shape of the team won't change."

Victory, which has a horrible record in Newcastle, is the $2.85 outsider with the TAB.
