PUNE: Oz Fest, a celebration of Australia s culture, has initiated the Melbourne International Comedy Roadshow with their Pune appearance on November 3 and 4.
The comedy festival will also launch an open-mic comedy competition - RAW Comedy in Pune on November 5 2012 at High Spirits and the finals are scheduled in New Delhi. The winner gets to participate at the Melbourne International Comedy festival in Melbourne next year.
The Australian High Commissioner to India, Peter Varghese, welcomed the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow to India. "Audiences in Australia have been enjoying the fun of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival for over a decade. We are thrilled to be able to bring five comedians from the Roadshow to India as part of Oz Fest," he said.
The Melbourne International Comedy Festival is Australia s largest ticketed cultural event and the biggest comedy festival in the world outside Edinburgh. For the past 14 years, after the festival closes, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow has hit the road to over 50 venues around Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong.
The Melbourne International Comedy Festival comes to India as part of the Australian Government s Oz Fest, a festival that runs from October 2012 through to January 2013 which will showcase the vibrancy and innovation of Australia s contemporary culture.
The festival director, Susan Provan will accompany the tour to identify established and emerging Indian comedians to bring back to Melbourne to perform at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in March/April.
