MELBOURNE Airport is returning to normal after the international departures area was cleared this morning following a security breach.
Exact details of the breach remain unclear.
But in a Twitter message the airport said operations were back on track.
"Normal operations have resumed for int'l departures," it said.
"Please check with your airline for flight status.
"Thanks for patience and cooperation."
In an earlier message about 10am it said there had been no safety risk.
"Clearing passengers from our int'l departures area due to a security breach as standard procedure,'' it said.
"No risk to safety."
Domestic terminals were not affected.
A Qantas spokeswoman said the airline did not expect any delays for two impending international flights to Los Angeles and Auckland despite this morning's drama.
Melbourne Airport has been contacted for comment.
