The Newcastle Jets have continued their good start to the season as they managed a 2-1 win against Melbourne Victory at Hunter Stadium on Friday night.
It was Emile Heskey's stunning form that lead the Jets to another win as his brace was enough to secure the win for Newcastle.
Any hopes Tando Velahpi had of playing a match for Melbourne Victory were well and truly gone by kickoff with new signing Nathan Coe named to start in goal for the visitors.
Velahpi wasn't the only player disappointed to miss out as James Virgili was relegated to the bench despite two solid performances in the Jets prior two victories.
Melbourne Victory started the better side and tested Mark Birigihtti early through a Marco Rojas effort.
Melbourne continued to dominate and again Rojas was at the thick of it in the 19th minute as he linked up well with Marcos Flores but they were unable to find Archie Thompson for a goal.
The Jets finally had their first chance in the 25th minute when Adrian Leijer stopped Ben Kantarovski's solid run, illegally, earning a yellow, while Zadkovich couldn't direct the free-kick on target.
Victory continued to look the more likely side, but still struggled to break through and create any meaningful chances as the half ended scoreless.
Jets coach Gary Van Egmond's words at half time must have worked as the Jets came out in the Jets came out from the break a much better side and took charge of the match from the outset.
Heskey got the first goal of the match nine minutes in to the second half as Joshua Brillante's cross was deflected in to his path allowing him a simple finish.
Just two minutes later Heskey sealed his brace as a scramble in the area lead to the ball falling to an unmarked Heskey who left Coe with no chance.
Victory were forced to go for it and in the 71st minute found a way back in to the match as Tiago Calvanho's clearance failed, falling to Archie Thompson who easily found the net to pull Victory back in the match.
Seven minutes later Thompson should have put Victory on level terms as Theo Markelis' cross found the Socceroos striker but he miscued the shot, sending it out for a goalkick.
That would be the last real chance for the Victory as they slumped to another defeat, while the Jets, with their third straight win, find themselves on top of the table.
